About Preetpal Kaur

Preetpal Kaur was born in Osaka, Japan in 1998 as, and moved to neighbouring Kobe City at the age of 2. She grew up in a busy household of three younger brothers between the sparkling Pacific Ocean and majestic Rokko Mountain range. She is the 3rd generation of her family to be in Japan, and is of Punjabi Indian descent. Her parents come from Singaporean and Thai backgrounds.

Preetpal received her first point and shoot camera as a birthday present when she was 7 years old, which inspired her to pursue photography. She experimented with taking photos of everything and anything and eventually got her first DSLR during high school which set off her love of experimental photography. She was fascinated with the different functions of the DSLR and was inspired to learn more. Through many late nights and YouTube videos, she learned and experimented the different functions of the DSLR. The desire to learn more yet she entered Temple University Japan Campus.

Currently Preetpal is studying in Temple University Japan Campus in Tokyo. Her love of photography inspired her to pursue an Art Major with a focus on the Digital. Also, the love of her home country she is a Japanese Minor as well. The themes of her photography work venture among the sense of everyday, to experimentation of shutter speed and aperture. Non-digitally, she is also working on themes of childhood and memory. In the future she hopes to pursue a teaching degree to teach elementary, being inspired by her own art teacher in her childhood.

Preetpal splits her time mostly between Kobe and Tokyo or else traveling around Asia to meet family. She speaks English, Japanese, Punjabi, and Hindi, and is of North Indian Heritage. She enjoys exploring the city, experiencing new cultures, and cooking new vegetarian recipes.
